Novice AE Lakeshore Champions!
Friday, 30 March 2012 11:14
When the Novice AE team met for the first time and had their first optional skate at the Legends Centre in Oshawa in July, many of them had visions of winning a championship.  Little did they realize that nine months later on the exact same sheet of ice, where it all began, that all of their hard work would finally come to fruition as the Novice AE team collected another Lakeshore championship for their home town of Whitby.

The boys had a phenomenal year compiling a record of 17-5-3, and finishing just 3 points out of first place.  The boys were also silver medal winners in three of the six tournaments that they entered.

The teams championship run began in the OMHA round of the playoffs where they disposed of both the Uxbridge Stars as well as the Peterborough Nationals before running into their nemesis throughout the year, the Port Perry Predators.  Despite putting up a valiant effort the boys lost their Semi-final showdown with Port Perry which relegated the boys back into the Lakeshore Championship division, where once again the boys would have to take on their rivals from Peterborough.  After winning two of the first three games against the Nationals the boys had a chance to clinch their victory in Peterborough.  The Nationals had other plans as they jumped out to a 3 - 1 lead entering the third period.  Showing the determination that they displayed throughout the year the boys showed why "Wildcats Never Give Up", erasing the 2 goal lead and finally taking the lead with little over a minute to go.  The team held on for the final sixty seconds securing their spot in the Lakeshore Championship final against their neighbourly rivals the Oshawa Minor Generals "Red" team.

The boys opened the Championship final with a convincing 5-2 win backstopped by "the Punisher" Blake Marsh.  Going into Oshawa the boys ran into a very determined Oshawa team and dropped a heart breaking 4-3 decision in Overtime.  Game three brought a stirring pre-game speech from Coach Windover and the boys rewarded their coach with a dominating 7-1 shellacking of their opponents in front of dozens of the Wildcat Pep squad led by Dave Dunstan with his cries of "shoot" and Rob Marsh with his battle cries of "Get the puck out Whitby!!!"   Game four took place back at the Legends centre on the same pad of ice where it all began in July.  "Karma" you say????  After a scoreless first period in which "The Wall" Zachary Mores held the pressing Generals at bay, the Wildcat offence got into high gear netting four past the Oshawa net minder.  It was only fitting that Cadel Davey who scored the first Wildcat goal of the year also potted the final goal of the year as they skated their way to a convincing 4-0 shutout victory to take home the Championship.

The boys would like to thank all of their sponsors and all of their parents and coaches who stood behind them win or lose and who helped them attain what they set out to do and that was bring home a Championship!!!!!!!
